To support the load and permit running of a vehicle in the event of deflation of a tubeless tyre 7, an auxiliary resilient-treaded wheel assembly is bolted to the rim base 6 within the tyre, the assembly comprising two rigid semicircular members 18, 19 each formed of a continuous inner part 20 connected by spaced radially and laterally outwardly extending webs 21 to a continuous outer tread part 30 having a transversely arcuate surface, of greater axial width than the inner part, on which is bonded a resilient tread 38 patterned by circumferential and transverse grooves 43, 44 to provide spaced blocks 45 which, when the assembly is operative, tend to feed the deflated tyre between the assembly and the ground and thus obviate bunching of the tyre in front of the wheel. As shown, the two assembly members 18, 19 seat in the well base of the rim, the webs 21 being appropriately shaped as shown in Fig. 3. Four of the webs 21, which in the assembly are spaced 90 degrees apart, are enlarged to present screw-threaded bores 54 aligned with openings 53 in the rim base to receive clamping bolts 52, the bolts having shank portions which cooperate with resilient bushes 56 in the bores 54 to seal the openings in the rim. |
