<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormal portion detecting method for an optical fiber cable capable of specifying an abnormal portion in an optical fiber as a pin point, without cutting the cable even in the long cable. <P>SOLUTION: An infrared ray is made to get incident from one terminal of the optical fiber 10 into the optical fiber 1 stored in the optical cable, and the infrared ray leaked from the abnormal portion in the optical fiber is detected by a detector 20. The optical cable 10 is penetrated through the detector 20 comprising a cylinder attached with an infrared detecting element on its inner face, and the cylinder is scanned along a longitudinal direction of the cable. Alternatively, the cylinder may be fixed, and the abnormal portion in the optical cable may be detected continuously while running the optical cable along its longitudinal direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
