<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decomposing and disposing of a compound, utilizing a discovery that thermal equilibrium carriers are formed in a large amount when a semiconductor is heated and the compound is completely decomposed into carbon dioxide and water, without causing environmental destruction. <P>SOLUTION: This method for decomposing the compound comprises mixing the compound to be decomposed with a powder of the semiconductor, or contacting the compound with the powder in a suitable manner, and then oxidatively decomposing the compound at 100-600°C in the presence of oxygen.
