PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform retrieval processing without ashing for any "manpower" such as reading, understanding, and determining documents when retrieving documents similar to an interested document from numerous electronic document groups. SOLUTION: An input means accepts an input of an electronic document (step S1). A first phrase extraction means extracts" phrases required to be retrieved" of a document group registered in a database, from phrases constituting the document group (step S2). A second phrase extraction means extracts the "phrases required for retrieval" of the document group from phrases constituting the inputted document (step S3). A determination means determines whether or not each document in the document group is similar to the document inputted in the step S1 in relation between a set of "phrases required to be retrieved" and a set of "phrases required for retrieval" which are extracted by the first and second phrase extraction means respectively(step S4).
