PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the slack of a chain easily and quantitatively caused by an elongation of the chain regardless of the structure of a chain driving mechanism while reducing cost for the device having the chain driving mechanism. SOLUTION: An upper member 33 of a chain cover 30 is replaced from a screw press 1. A measurement position is selected on the pin of the chain 17 at a vicinity point of a center between an axial center of rotational shaft 9 of a driving motor 8 and an axial center of the screw shaft 2. A measurement tool 40 fixed with a steel scale is placed on the flange 34a provided on a lower member 34 of the chain cover 30. The measuring point of the chain 17 is pressed down to tighten the chain, after reading the corresponding point of the scale of the measurement tool 40, then tighten the chain by push up the measuring point of the chain 17, and read the corresponding point of the scale of the measuring tool 40. From these read values of the scale, the displacement of the measuring point of the chain 17 is calculated, and the displacement of the chain 17 is defined as the slack of chain.
