The invention relates to the metal machining, namely to devices for fixation of blanks from round bars. The process includes fixation of the blank from round bars into the steadyrest and subsequent machining thereof. The steadyrest includes, fixed onto a bedplate, two vertical posts joined by a distance cross-piece. Into each post there are installed bearing supports, wherein there is mounted a rotary bearing element, made in the form of a pipe, onto the ends of which, on both sides of the vertical posts, there are placed blank fixating devices, each of which is provided with pressure bolts. The steadyrest additionally contains, fixed onto one of the posts, an arm for supporting the free end of the blank.
