摘要 992,549. Lawn sprinklers. SUNBEAM CORPORATION. Aug. 1, 1961 [Aug. 31, 1960], No. 27933/61. Heading B2F. In a lawn sprinkler in which a spray tube 4 with apertures 7 is pivotally mounted at its ends, and is adapted to be oscillated through an adjustable angle, the bisector of which may be contained in or be disposed at an angle to the central vertical plane of the sprinkler, an arm 61 is secured to the spray tube and is connected with a rotating drive crank 6 by two elements 62, 63, which are pivotally connected together by a pin 66, the pin 66 being adjustable towards and away from the axis of oscillation of the spray tube to alter the angle of oscillation, the arrangement ensuring that the bisector of the oscillation angle remains in a substantially fixed position when the oscillation angle of the spray tube is adjusted. The sprinkler is supported on two skids 2, and one end of the spray tube 4 is mounted so that it can turn freely in a plate 8, this end of the tube 4 being closed by a plug 9, with a needle 10, which, on removal of the plug, can be used to clean the apertures 7. The other end of the spray tube is mounted for free rotation in a casing 5, a seal 13 preventing escape of water from inside the casing. A water supply hose (not shown) is connected to the sprinkler by a connector 35 and water passes via a strainer 38 to a slot 39 which directs a jet of water against water wheel blades 46 which causes the water wheel 40 to rotate. This rotates a worm 47 and its corresponding worm wheel (not shown), which worm wheel is mounted on the same shaft as a further worm 49 which rotates a worm wheel 50 and thus the drive crank 6. As the crank 6 rotates, it causes the arm 61 to oscillate about the axis of oscillation of the spray tube through the action of the elements 62, 63. The element 62 is pivotally connected by a pin 65 to the arm 61, but friction between the parts 62, 61 prevents relative movement between these two parts during normal operation. The two parts 62, 61 may be moved relative to each other by manual movement of a knob 75 fitted on the element 63, or on the element 62, to adjust the oscillation angle of the spray tube 4. This adjustment is limited by a lug on the arm 61 which engages with an arcuate slot 76 in the element 62, and during this adjustment teeth 85 on the element 62 engage with teeth 84 on a collar 82, Fig. 3, on the spray tube 4 and rotate it relative to the hub 64 of the arm 61, which also surrounds the spray tube. The collar 82 is provided with a scale, which indicates, by its position relative to a mark on the hub 64, the angle of oscillation of the spray tube. This angle may in some instances be adjusted by manual rotation of the collar 82. A collar 109 is held on the tube 4 by lugs 112 and a spring 94 acts between the collar 109 and the collar 82 pressing the latter into engagement with the hub 64, which in turn presses against a collar 80, held from movement relative to the tube 4 by lugs 93 engaging in slots in the collar 80. Further slots (not shown) are provided in the parts 80, 64, 82, 109 to allow removal of these parts over the lugs 93. The edges of the collars 80, 82 and of the hub 64 which are in engagement with each other are serrated to prevent relative movement therebetween during normal operation, any movement between the parts 82, 64 being also resisted by the friction between the parts 61, 62, the spring 94, however, allowing relative adjustment of these parts. The collar 80 and thus the spray tube 4 may be manually rotated relative to the hub 64 and the collar 80 is provided with a scale which indicates by its position relative to the mark on the hub 64, the angular position of the bisector of the oscillation angle of the tube 4 relative to the central vertical plane of the sprinkler. The relative rotary movement between the collar 80 and the hub 64 is limited by a lug on the hub 64 which engages with an arcuate slot in the collar 80, and protrusions (not shown) are provided on the collar 80 to facilitate its rotation. The skids 2 and the spray tube 4 may be made from extruded aluminium tube and the casing 5, the worm gears and the worm wheels may be moulded from a plastics material.
