In a carbonating apparatus, beverage components are watered by a proportioning pump 6, mixed turbulently in helical coils 10 and fed to a pressure vessel 11 to which compressed gas is supplied by a conduit 27 and float valve 19 in dependence on the liquid level, which is itself controlled by the back pressure against the pump 6. Liquid containing dissolved gas is fed from the vessel 11 to the inlet of an injector nozzle 12 and gas via a conduit 15 to an annular passage 18 which connects with the throat of the nozzle 12 by offset bores. The gasified liquid then passes through a conduit 22 (which may be coiled to prolong contact time, and/or contain helical baffles or other turbulence-increasing bodies) to a separator 13, whence excess gas is returned to the vessel 11 by conduit 16 and the gasified liquid is forwarded for use through a pressure-increasing pump 23. In a modification (see Fig. 2, not shown) the pressure-increasing pump is placed between the nozzle and the separator. |
