The present invention provides compositions and methods for the treatment of ischemic mediated central nervous system disorder or injury. More particularly, the invention provides a combination therapy for the treatment of a central nervous system ischemic mediated disorder or injury comprising the administration to a subject of a cyclooxygenase-2 selective inhibitor, a xanthine compound and ethanol.
