<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air cleaning apparatus capable of treating a large quantity of air without increasing the size of the apparatus, achieving a high removal efficiency of a harmful gas such as nitrogen oxide (NOx) in air and having a photocatalyst-coated substrate which can be cleaned and reused easily, and an air cleaning system. <P>SOLUTION: The air cleaning apparatus decomposes the harmful gas in air by a photocatalyst layer and removes the harmful gas from the air by making the air flow once or circulating along the surface of the substrate provided with the photocatalyst layer in a harmful gas treatment vessel. As the substrate a sheet material having the photocatalyst layer on its surface and made of nonwoven fabric, paper or resin film is corrugated or pleated to form a clearance for allowing air to flow. The gap of the clearance is designed to provide a harmful air removing efficiency of not less than 50% in terms of Gormley-Kennedy theoretical formula as a diffusion scrubber. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
