PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device where the press-contact force of a charging roller with a photoreceptor is not varied even when a cleaning member gets thin. SOLUTION: In the charging device, since the charging roller 21 and a charging roller case 24 are connected through a rotary shaft 22 and a bearing 23, they are constituted to be a substantially integrated rigid body with respect to movement in an up-and-down direction. Thus, the energizing force (f) of a spring 27 becomes internal force in the rigid body, so that it is not transmitted to the photoreceptor 3 existing on the outside, and the press-contact force of the roller 21 with the photoreceptor 3 is only the energizing force F of a spring 28, and further the position of the case 24 is not changed by the variation of the energizing force (f) of the spring 27, so that the energizing force F of the spring 28 is not changed. As a result, the press-contact force of the roller 21 with the photoreceptor 3 is not varied even when the cleaning member 26 gets thin and the shrinkage of the spring 27 becomes small to cause the decrease of the energizing force (f) due to secular change.
