PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound that can be used as an optical resolution reagent selected from the group of axially asymmetry compounds that can more easily be produced through an uncomplicated process. SOLUTION: The optical resolution reagent is mainly composed of an optically active binaphthyl compound represented by formula (1)(wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are each identical or different and represent each a proton-including substituent or a proton-free substituent; R<SP>2</SP>represents a substituent group or a leaving group that is reactive with the compound to be analyzed; n is 1 or 2).
