PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid level detector for a vehicle to cause an ultrasonic wave emitted from an ultrasonic wave oscillation element to propagate through a liquid with high efficiency by a simple means. SOLUTION: In this liquid level detector for a vehicle, no adhesive agent is used to fix an ultrasonic sensor 3 into a storage case 4 but the ultrasonic sensor 3 is pressed against and fixed to a bottom surface 42 of the storage case 4 by means of elastic force of a spring 14. The storage case 4 is structured so that it can be provided with a through hole 43 opened in an oscillation surface 31 of the sensor 3 and causing the bottom surface 42 to communicate with a front surface 41. In this detector, a fuel 8 in a fuel tank 2 is introduced into the storage case 4 via the through hole 43 and a capillary phenomenon causes the fuel 8 to completely fill a minute gap C formed between the oscillation surface 31 of the sensor 3 and the bottom surface 42 of the storage case 4. Since the ultrasonic wave from the oscillation surface 31 is transmitted with high efficiency via the fuel 8 to the storage case 4, a fuel liquid level detector 1 is actualized wherein an ultrasonic wave emitted from the ultrasonic sensor 3 is propagated through the fuel 8 with high efficiency while suppressing an increase in cost.
