PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a frame rate while suppressing smear when an image of one part region is used in a frame transfer type CCD image sensor. SOLUTION: A center area 42a for extracting an image and a pre-reading region 42c sandwiched between the region and an accumulator 40s can be separately driven. The voltage of the gate electrode of the region 42c is controlled before frame transfer to remove signal charges into a substrate rear surface. After frame transfer out of first to m-th lines corresponding to the region 42c, the first to (m-1)th lines are composed in a horizontal transfer 40h and read by a single transfer, thereby reducing the number of driving of the transfer 40h to improve the frame rate. Also, by using the signal charges accumulated in the frame transmission in the m-th line, the smear component contained in signal charges from each cell of the center area 42a.
