PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner and its control method for controlling the blowing direction of conditioned air during powerful operation. SOLUTION: The air conditioner 1 comprise a control part 60. The control part 60 is connected to a compressor 21, a four-way selector valve 22, a pressure reducer 25, a ROM 41, a RAM 42, a fan motor 13, a flap motor 146, a temperature sensor 43, and an infrared sensor 44. The control part 60 controls the compressor 21, the four-way selector valve 22, the pressure reducer 25, the fan motor 13 and a flap motor 146. When an instruction is input from a remote control 40 to perform powerful operation, the control part 60 temporarily increases the rotating speed of a cross flow fan 12 and the operating frequency of the compressor 21 to improve air conditioning capacity and controls the direction of a horizontal flap 144 to blow conditioned air toward people staying in a room.
