PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a silica aerogel which retains properties inherent in the silica aerogel such as a low refractive index and low thermal conductivity, is excellent in optical transparency and, if required, is hydrophobic. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the silica aerogel, the silica aerogel is manufactured by preparing a wet gel through hydrolytic polycondensation of a reaction solution containing a silica material and subjecting the wet gel to supercritical drying.
