摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect the road surface friction coefficient even when a vehicle is traveling at a constant traveling speed or a substantially constant traveling speed. SOLUTION: The road surface friction coefficient is calculated from the traveling speed of an object vehicle and the slip ratio of a driving wheel when the vehicle is traveling at a constant speed or a substantially constant traveling speed. The relationship between the traveling speed and the slip ratio is stored by a quadratic regression curve for each road surface friction coefficient. When the stored quadratic regression curve is not applied to the present traveling speed and slip ratio, the road surface friction coefficient is calculated by interpolating the quadratic regression curve. The road surface gradient is detected, the quadratic regression curve is corrected by the road surface gradient, and the road surface friction coefficient is calculated based on the corrected quadratic regression curve.
