PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material with improved shudder resistance property, high friction coefficient, improved strength, porosity, abrasion resistance and noise proofness. SOLUTION: The friction material contains a base material impregnated with at least one curable resin, the base material contains a porous carbon woven material and friction modulating particles at least partially covering the outer surface of the carbon woven material. The woven material primary layer is composed of warps and wefts defining a plurality of dents to hold said friction modulating particles on the surface of primary fabric layer.
