Disclosed are a compact drive unit, a Spiroplan gear unit, and a method for producing a drive unit. Said compact drive unit comprises at least one electric motor, a brake, a gear unit, and a frequency converter. The output shaft of the gear unit and the rotor shaft are disposed parallel to each other, the distance between the shafts being determined by at least one gear train. The first gear train encompasses a first gearing part that is connected to the rotor shaft and a second gearing part that meshes with the first gearing part and is connected to an intermediate shaft. The brake is provided with at least one brake rotor shaft and is integrated in the housing of the compact drive unit. Said brake rotor shaft is arranged parallel to the rotor shaft and is connected to a gearing part that meshes with the second gearing part.
