<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device which can be easily manufactured and wherein efficient access is made possible. <P>SOLUTION: The medium storage device comprises different configurations of a luminescent layer (830,920,1020) comprising a luminescent material capable of emitting light while being bombarded by a beam from a beam transmitter, a detector (810, 930, 1010) for detecting the light emitted from the luminescent layer (830, 920, 1020), and a phase-change layer (820, 910, 1030) located closely to the luminescent layer (830, 920, 1020). The phase-change layer (820, 910, 1030) is able to transform from a first phase to a second phase. Light emitted from the luminescent layer (830, 920, 1020) and received by the detector (810, 930, 1010)materially differs when the phase-change layer (820, 910, 1030) transforms from the first phase to the second phase. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
