In a reduction gear comprising a flexible metal tubular gear 16 whose teeth 42 are rolled successively into and out of engagement with the teeth 44 of a stationary internal ring gear 12 by an elliptoidal input 14, the flexible gear 16 is integral with a tubular flared portion 46 joining the substantially axially movable rim 62 of a flange 48 fast with an output shaft 18. The tubular portion 46 may be continuously curved, of several conical sections or with a waisted centre and the flange 48 may extend radially outwardly or be saddlebacked. In a modification, Fig. 11, an electric motor 108 has an elliptoidal-inner surfaced armature 106 which rolls the flexible gear teeth 122, on a tubular flared portion 104, radially inwards to engage teeth 124 machined on an output shaft 118.
