A keyboard input apparatus, where a plurality of main keys (21) through (32) are pressed for character inputting operation. Five keys (21) through (25) are set individually as character keys for inputting characters "A", "I", "U", "E", and "O" of the Alphabet expressing vowels. Further provided are key input detecting means to detect the number of key pressing operations of each of the keys (21) through (32), and a key input processing means for outputting the character keys corresponding to the number of key pressing operations. Setting of in the Japanese and English language frequently used vowels on independent keys (21) through (25) enables inputting of vowels by only a single key pressing operation and when compared with a conventional art where a plurality of key pressing operations are required, the number of key pressing operations can be reduced at the time of inputting vowels, whereby manipulation of the apparatus and the inputting speed can be improved. <IMAGE> |
