A convalescent patient has to exercise his/her legs applying gradually increasing forces. A walking aid like a Zimmer frame with or without wheels or a pair of crutches is normally used during this period. The surgeon provides the patient or carer with the information about the weight the legs are able to carry at a certain time. A sensor element integrated in the walking aid and adjusted to the particular data of the patient causes a connected device to release a signal either in the shape of sound or on a visual display when the limits are exceeded.
