The method involves transmitting a number of symbols, each with at least one bit using, at least one channel and a predefined transmission power, sending symbols with receiver-specific transmission energy corresponding to an upper limit associated with the receiver or a lower fault detection rate. It involves adapting the symbol duration, the number of bits per symbol or the symbol duration and number of bits per symbol to the current transmission conditions. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a transmitter for implementing the inventive method (B) a transmitter-receiver (C) and a receiver for implementing the inventive method.
