A method for inductive heating of a tool holder sleeve (5) to grip and release tool shafts (11) via a shrink fit process has the induction coil (19) radially spaced from the sleeve and with an outer cladding (23) of magnetic non conducting material to form a concentrator for the induced fields. A concentrator ring is also positioned around the tool shaft and is separated from the end of the sleeve by a disc (33) of non magnetic insulating material. The disc can be of ceramic or of any suitable material and prevents thermal losses from the sleeve to the concentrator.
