Production of coated workpieces comprises galvanically depositing one or more layers containing a metal and/or metal alloy on a substrate, and heat treating the coated substrate at 300-1000[deg] C so that the surface layer of the substrate and the applied layers partially and/or completely diffuse into each other. An independent claim is also included for a coated workpiece produced by the above process.
