The toothbrush, assembled of a shaft (14) with a bristle head (13) at its upper end and a housing (5) to be combined with the exchangeable shaft (14) also serving as a handle, is additionally fitted with a small lamp (9) and a focussing lens (10) integrated in the housing (5) and pointing towards the teeth. The lamp (9) can either be switched (7, 8) on separately, in particular when combined with a manually operated toothbrush, or activated automatically when the electric tooth brush is started. The focussing lens (10) can be individually adjusted in order to facilitate a perfect view on the area to be inspected.
