The high-pressure fuel injector for an internal combustion engine has a housing (1) fitting into a bore in the cylinder head (8) adjacent to the inlet and exhaust valves. The narrow diameter injector nozzle (2a) sprays fuel into the combustion chamber (6). The fuel injector housing has a shoulder fitting into a step in the bore. A further shoulder engages the top of the cylinder head. Belleville springs (16,17) press on the large diameter high-pressure fuel reservoir (4) at the top of the fuel injector housing to push it into the cylinder head. A cylindrical projection (11) on top of the fuel reservoir fits inside the Belleville springs, while the Belleville springs fit inside a cylindrical bore (12) in a cylinder head cover (9). A damping element (13) is fitted at the top of the stack of Belleville springs.
