PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material excellent in chemical stability, mechanical strength, and processability that can be manufactured at low cost.

SOLUTION: The composite material for the bipolar plate of a fuel cell comprises a polybenzoxazine and a conductive carbon, wherein the volume reduction of the polymer after polymerization is not larger than 5% with respect to the total amount of monomers before polymerization, preferably not larger than 3%, and more preferably not larger than 1%.
