PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-reliability display device; and to provide a method for manufacturing the display device with a high yield. SOLUTION: This display device is so structured that a first electrode, an insulating layer covering a peripheral end of the first electrode, a layer formed on the first electrode and containing an organic compound, and a second electrode are formed in a display area. The display device is characterized by that one or more kinds of elements out of elements selected from a group 14 and a group 18 of the periodic table are added to the first electrode and the insulating layer.
