A container (10) having a bottom wall (30) and a freestanding sidewall (34) defining a cavity (38) for receiving soil (14) and plant bulbs (18) planted in the soil. The container is made of biodegradable materials and is designed to be buried in soil (26) located in, e.g., a flower bed or a container. The container may optionally include any one or more of a rodent deterrent (46) attached to its exterior surface, a growth enhance (66) attached to its interior surface and a closure (50) for sealing the cavity containing the bulbs. The container allows bulbs to be planted densely in a small space, while protecting them from rodents and enhancing their long-term health and viability.
