PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear-projection display device capable of realizing both a projection image without trapezoidal distortion and uniform best focusing performance even in the case of oblique projection and realizing compact cabinet structure with thin surface. SOLUTION: The rear-projection display device is provided with a liquid crystal panel 1 which is a video display element, a projection lens 2 which performs magnification projecting of an optical image formed on the liquid crystal panel 1 and a screen 3 and constituted so that the outer shape of a effective display area of the liquid crystal panel 1 forms the trapezoidal shape and surfaces formed by extending the effective display area surface of the liquid crystal panel 1, a main surface 4 of the projection lens 2 and a screen surface 3, respectively, are arranged so as to mutually cross on one straight line.
