<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display device for displaying a proper images by securing high luminance, and to provide its drive method. <P>SOLUTION: The plasma display device includes a plasma display panel 1, a plurality of maintenance blocks A and B regarding as a single unit a wire connection group commonly connecting a sustaining electrode 5, and a plurality of scanning circuits 111-A and B applying discharge voltage on a scanning electrode 4. The plasma display device is composed, by installing a lighting rate calculation means 1C for mutually shifting timing driving each maintenance block and calculating a discharge cell lighting rate per unit time in each maintenance block from an input video signal, and maintenance pulse number modulation means 1A and B for increasing and decreasing the number of maintenance pulses, in response to the lighting rate of each maintenance block, calculated with the lighting rate calculation means 1C to each of one or to all the maintenance blocks. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
