<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous dispersion of a polyolefin resin having excellent water resistance, adhesion and heat-sealing properties and suitable for uses such as binders of various kinds of coating agents, coatings, inks and adhesives and to provide a method for producing the dispersion. <P>SOLUTION: The aqueous dispersion of the polyolefin resin is an aqueous dispersion comprising a polyolefin resin containing 50-98 mass% of a 3-6C unsaturated hydrocarbon and 0.1-25 mass% of an acrylic or a methacrylic ester as monomer units and having 5-100 mg KOH/g acid value, a basic compound, a nonvolatile aid for providing an aqueous system and an aqueous medium. The aqueous dispersion of the polyolefin resin is characterized as follows. The content of the nonvolatile aid for providing the aqueous system is≤10 pts. mass based on 100 pts. mass of the polyolefin resin and the number-average particle diameter of the polyolefin resin in the aqueous dispersion is≤1μm.
