The invention relates to a method for producing a profiled reinforcing insert for reinforcing the lateral wall of a pneumatic tyre of a vehicle with a lateral wall that is self-supporting when tyre pressure is lost. Said insert consists of at least one first layer of strip-type reinforcing material extending transversally to the longitudinal extension of the strip-type reinforcing material, between two edges that laterally define the strip-type reinforcing material, over a width (a1), and at least one second layer of strip-type reinforcing material extending transversally to the longitudinal extension of the strip-type reinforcing material, between two edges that laterally define the strip-type reinforcing material over a width (a2), where a2< A1. First, the at least one second layer is fully applied to the first layer, with the entire width (a2) thereof, according to the same longitudinal orientation as the first layer, and the first layer extends over the edge of the second layer, at least on one side, with a lateral edge region thereof, over a width (b), transversally to the longitudinal extension. The edge region of the first layer extending laterally over the edge of the at least second layer is folded over, in relation to the second layer, at a distance (c), where 0=c<(b/2), from the edge of the second layer, and is applied to the edge of the second layer on the region of the first layer extending over the distance (c) from the edge of the at least second layer, and from the edge of the second layer to the surface of the at least second layer opposite the first layer. |
