<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which is provided with a plurality of recording layers and can record data in and reproduce from a farthest recording layer from a laser beam incidence plane in a desired manner, and can record data in and reproduce from recording layer(s) other than the farthest recording layer from the laser beam incidence plane in a desired manner. <P>SOLUTION: An optical recording medium includes a substrate 11 and a first recording layer 20, a second recording layer 30, a third recording layer 40 and a forth recording layer 50 laminated on the substrate 11 via a first intermediate layer 12, a second intermediate layer 13 and a third intermediate layer 14. The second recording layer 30, the third recording layer 40 and the forth recording layer 50 contain at least one metal M selected from the group consisting of Ni, Cu, Si, Ti, Ge, Zr, Nb, Mo, In, Sn, W, Pb, Bi, Zn and La and an element X which can combine with the metal M upon being irradiated with a laser beam for recording data, thereby forming a crystal of a compound of the element X with the metal M. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
