PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid imaging unit and its driving method which realize reduction of the maximum current supply amount required for turning on a transferring transistor. SOLUTION: The solid imaging unit in which a plurality of pixels generating light-generation electric charge in accordance with incident light are arranged in a matrix shape, has an effective pixel region used for imaging and a non-effective pixel region separately provided from the effective pixel region. Each pixel has a storage well storing the light-generation electric charge, a modulation transistor, and a transfer control element transferring the light-generation electric charge stored in the storage well to the modulation transistor. When the light-generation electric charge stored in the storage well is transferred to the modulation transistor by the transfer control element, the light-generation electric charge in the effective pixel region and the light-generation electric charge containing no light-generation electric charge located in the effective pixel region are transferred by dividing into at least twice or more.
