<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion-exchange type optical waveguide device which has a constitution suitable for low-cost preparation and is capable of changing the mode field diameter largely with satisfactory reproducibility by changing the waveguide diameter in the traveling direction of light. <P>SOLUTION: The ion-exchange type optical waveguide device comprises a first glass substrate 11 on which an optical waveguide 21 is formed by means of an ion-exchange method and a second glass substrate 12 optically bonded on an optical waveguide forming side surface of the first glass substrate 11. Further, optical waveguide forming ions on the first glass substrate 11 side are subjected to ionic diffusion up to the second glass substrate 12 side and, thereby, an optical waveguide 21a is formed over both of the glass substrates. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
