The unit has a belt bobbin (12) and belt strip (16), whereby the bobbin has a body (14) that can accommodate belt windings with a central opening (18) and an axial slot (22) extending from a peripheral surface to the central opening. A recess with a contact surface (30) is arranged in the inner wall of the bobbin body bounding the central recess and one end of the belt is stiffened and contacts the contact surface. An independent claim is also included for a reel for a safety belt.
