The invention relates to a method for the modification of a footprint dependent on a fixed number of texture elements, covered by the footprint, in a graphic system which provides the texture elements with a resolution, whereby a measurement or a form of the footprint (104) is first determined. Based on the fixed number of texture elements and based on the fixed measurement or form, the resolution of the texture elements corresponding to the footprint is determined (114). It is then determined whether the graphic system provides texture elements with the determined resolution. Should the graphic system provide texture elements with the determined resolution, the footprint is retained. Should the graphic system provide no texture elements with the determined resolution, the texture elements with the corresponding resolution provided by the graphic system are selected and that of the footprint reduced such that the number of texture elements covered by the footprint with reduced size is essentially the same or less than the determined number.
