PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new tertiary carboxylic acid composition which is suitable as a raw material for a tertiary carboxylic ester having high biodegradability or its metal salt. SOLUTION: The tertiary carboxylic acid composition comprises a 7-17C tertiary carboxylic acid as a main ingredient and has≥90 mass% content of tertiary carboxylic acid having one carbon atom binding to four carbon atoms in the molecular structure and not containing a carbon atom binding to three or more carbon atoms in the molecular structure.
