PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion chamber structure for an internal combustion engine, capable of favorably mixing mixed gas to improve combustion efficiency in simple constitution. SOLUTION: In a circumferential edge part of a combustion chamber 30, a gap between a lower surface 10 of a cylinder head and an upper surface of a piston 4 is gradually enlarged to be smaller between the suction-suction side, and between the exhaust-exhaust side, and larger between the suction-exhaust side, so that mixed gas at the circumferential edge part of the combustion chamber smoothly flows along the inner circumferences of cylinders 3 from between the suction-suction side and between the exhaust-exhaust side toward between the suction-exhaust side. Mixed gas currents from between the suction-suction side and mixed gas currents from between the exhaust-exhaust side are thus hit to each other at the center between the suction-exhaust side to strongly flow over a conical taper part 21 toward a center recess 22 (in the directions of white arrows).
