<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method capable of applying smoothing operation even to multi-value image data subjected to image forming processing such as screen processing without a problem and applying smoothing processing without a problem even to image data of a deteriorated image such as the JPEG by applying M-bit processing to data before the image forming processing to produce 1-bit signals. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is characterized in to have a configuration wherein an image signal generating section 404 detects each edge by different methods from a control signal generated by a control signal generating section 403 from image data resulting from applying bit conversion to N-bit multi-value image data by a bit control section 402 and any of image data after a smoothing processing result, a bit conversion result, and a result of pseudo medium tone processing is selected and outputted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
