PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide magnetic resonance imaging apparatus having no shield composed of copper foil. SOLUTION: A gradient magnetic field formation section comprises gradient coils 301 and 302 composed of a copper plate, and the thickness of the coils exceeds the surface thickness of an RF magnetic field, so that the gradient magnetic field is formed in an imaging area and the RF magnetic field generated by an RF coil section is shielded by the copper plate to prevent the magnetic connection with a magnetic shunt plate. This constitution can eliminate an independent shield composed of the copper foil to reduce the number of components, save a space near an imaging area, expand the imaging area, reduce the size of a yoke, and improve the response characteristics or the like of the gradient magnetic field.
