<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a porous silicon nitride ceramic having high porosity and high strength. <P>SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the silicon nitride porous body having high porosity and high strength, the silicon nitride porous body having 40-75% porosity and 20-40 MPa strength is manufactured by molding mixed powder prepared by incorporating 1-10 wt.% silicon nitride seed crystal in mixed powder of silicon dioxide powder with carbon powder, heating the molding at a prescribed temperature rising rate in a nitrogen atmosphere or an inert gas atmosphere containing nitrogen to pre-heat the molding and heating further at a prescribed temperature rising rate to sinter the molding. The silicon nitride porous body manufactured by the method and having 60-75% porosity and 20-40 MPa strength and a structural member comprising the porous body are provided. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
