<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a coating amount from becoming little in an exhaust gas inflow end part while increasing the number of the active points of a catalytic metal even after high temperature endurance to suppress the lowering of the purification activity of the catalytic metal. <P>SOLUTION: The catalytic metal is cut over a predetermined length from its end surface after wash coating or before a coating layer is formed and the cut end surface thereof is set as the exhaust gas inflow end surface. The part, where the coating layer 11 becomes thin of the catalytic metal when an excessive slurry is removed by the blowoff after wash coating, is cut off to set the part, where a normal coating thickness is formed, to the exhaust gas inflow end surface. Accordingly, the absolute amount of the catalytic metal of this part can be increased and the number of the active points of the catalytic metal can be increased even after high temperature endurance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
