PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material that can suppress the generation or emission of methane and a method for producing the same as a technology for methane purification. SOLUTION: Cells that can oxidatively decompose methane, for example, microorganisms in genera of Methylococcus, Methylopsphaera, Methylomonas, Methylomicrobium, Methylobacter, Methylosinus, Methylocystis, Methanotrophic or the like are allowed to adhere/propagate on a porous carrier, for example, charcoal, activated carbon, pearlite, pumice or zeolite.
