PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a portable electronic device which has an improved cushioning performance against a falling impact force. SOLUTION: A high rigidity magnesium casing 5, a printed circuit board 6 joined to the casing 5 by screwing, a connector 7 for external connection joined to the board 6 by soldering 71, and an external cushioning member 8, are provided between an upper casing 21 and a lower casing 22 of a key-operation side casing 2. One end of the lower casing 22 functions as an external-force receiving end 221. The external cushioning member 8 has a structure wherein a high rigidity magnesium-made projection 81 provided to the high rigidity magnesium casing 5 fits in a recess 82 made of an organic polymer material provided to the external-force receiving end 221.
