PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alumina fiber aggregate scarcely causing scatter of fibers, excellent from viewpoints of handleability and working environmental hygiene, and suitable for a use as a catalytic converter holding material, etc. SOLUTION: This alumina fiber aggregate is composed of alumina short fibers, wherein the alumina short fibers each have such a fiber diameter x (μm) that a ratio of the fibers having a natural logarithmic value ln x of less than ln 3 to the total fibers is not more than 2% in logarithmic normal distribution of x's and a value given by subtracting a value two times larger than a standard error from a length-weighed geometric average diameter of the fibers is not more than 6μm.
