PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of bandings, without being influenced by the speed fluctuation of an image carrier. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a latent image forming means for forming an electrostatic latent image on the image carrier 3, a developing means 6a for developing the electrostatic latent image on a toner image, a primary transfer means for transferring the toner image on an intermediate transfer body, and a secondary transfer means for transferring the toner image, transferred on the intermediate transfer body on a recording medium. A secondary transfer nip width is equal to or larger than the primary transfer nip width, the secondary transfer means is separated in a non-image region on the intermediate transfer body, and the non-image region forms the latent image by the latent image forming means, during the passage of the transfer part.
